On the heels of Papa John’s stellar Super Bowl induced Pizza/Pop giveaway, it seems as though Pizza Hut and Domino’s are attempting to throw out their own new offers. Trouble is, both of them are marginal at best. Domino’s is offering up a 16 piece order of their Parmesan Bread Bites for a $1 when you buy 2 of their Medium 2 Topping Pizzas, while Pizza Hut has introduced their newest Dinner Box for $10, which has enough sticks involved, you’d think you were at PF Chang’s.

Domino’s would like you to believe that the Parm Bread Bites are new, but they were actually silently added to their menu back in December, alongside their Stuffed Cheesy Breads. Regularly priced at $3.99 for a 16 piece, we got an order back then, and were less than pleased. The bread bites were lukewarm, misshapen, and were bland at best.
Though the Domino’s site claims they are sprinkled with Parmesan-Asiago cheese and then seasoned with garlic and more Parmesan, they tasted like they were dusted in talc and marinated in water. They don’t even come with marinara sauce unless you pay an extra charge. Maybe our local Domino’s is just a joke, which it is, but I don’t even know if these bites are worth your buck.

Moving onto Pizza Hut, it seems as though, the gimmick mill has run dry. With crusts stuffed with meat and balls of cheese in the past, we haven’t seen something off the wall from them in many a moon. Pizza Hut’s latest featured item focuses on value once again. Replacing their popular Big Dinner Box that housed 2 Medium 1 topping pizzas, 5 bread sticks, and 8 wings for $20, with a new box that drops the “big” from it’s name and is more focused on a dinner for 2.

The price drops to $10 and has only 1 Medium 1 topping za, keeps the 5 breadsticks, but then adds 10 cinnamon sticks. Pizza Hut’s website would like you to “tie the knot” with the dinner box, claiming that it contains everything you need for a “perfect proposal.” These off the wall claims are clearly a last ditched effort at a salvaging some sort of marketability.

They are even selling at staggering Proposal Package priced at a whopping $10,010 on their site. The package includes: a ring, fireworks, photo and videographer, limo service, and flowers, and oh yeah a dinner box as well. What a fail. But you better hurry, because there’s only 10 of these magical packages available.
Would any guy actually consider doing this? Drop down on bended knee, reveal the dinner box, and then propose marriage? What topping would you even get on that pizza? After all I’m sure the grand kids would love to hear the story about how Pap Pap proposed using a 1500 calorie Dinner Box as a prop. Heartwarming indeed.
Pizza Hut’s Box is a seemingly good value, it just doesn’t bring anything new to the table, while Domino’s Parmesan Bread Bites taste like a table. I’m hoping next month brings better results.
