The Macchiato has been gaining steam in the beverage industry, especially with Dunkin Donuts getting into the game last quarter. Starbucks has been serving them for years, but now has taken the espresso/milk process into a new frontier by releasing the Latte Macchiato.
Starbucks goes out of their way to compare their new beverage with the also trendy Flat White espresso drink. They recently released a Holiday Spice Flat White, which fell flat for us, mainly due to beverage preparation issues. As you can see in the diagram, the Latte Macchiato is marked with espresso on the top of the beverage, creating a robust first sip while the Flat White has a milk pour on the top of the beverage creating a more even first sip.
