While McDonald’s may always be known for burgers, nugs, and their famous fries, it won’t stop them from pumping out new chicken sandwich iterations. Following the Artisan Grilled chicken, McDonald’s has recently revamped their fried chicken sandwiches by adding buttermilk to the breading and creating the longest name in history for what is essentially a fried chicken sandwich. McDonald’s Premium Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich may have 7 words in its title, but we’re here to let you know if all of the extra fluff make it a worth a damn.
The Ingredients
- Artisan Roll
- Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Breast
- Leaf Lettuce
- Tomato
- Mayo
First Impressions
On paper there really isn’t much of note to talk about. McDonald’s really went all in on their buttermilk coating taking the world by storm. Considering the rest of the sandwich consists of the uber standard lettuce, tomato, and regular mayonnaise, it doesn’t seem like McDonald’s spent more than twenty minutes at the end of Darrel in Accounting’s 35th Birthday Party to think of this sandwich’s makeup.
As you can see from the photos alone, the breading has some odd discolorations and consistency issues, but after taking a full blown bite it was hard to deny that McDonald’s indeed stepped up their game despite the lack of ingenuity. The chicken was flavor packed and had just the right amount of crisp. Another standout factor was the artisan bun. Debuting last year on McDonald’s Clubhouse, the bun is toasty and eons better than the standard paper mache buns that are typical of McDonald’s value based sandwiches. The lack of artificial flavors further heightened the air of quality surrounding the sandwich.
McDonald’s Premium Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich – The Verdict:
Overall, I think this sandwich is a step in the right direction for McDonald’s chicken. The chicken feels a little bit more real, compared to the “too perfect” sense I got when eating the previous iterations. This just seems a little bit more real on par with the likes of a Chick Fil A sandwich, if not better taste wise. The chicken really stands out in this sandwich, and it needed to considering the almost $5 price tag and the fact that there isn’t much else going on here except for the bun.
