McDonald’s breakfast is the kind of setting where one can make a whole lot of mistakes; mistakes that can really make or break your entire day. It’s easy to start riffling off dollar menu items and before you know it, you’re right back home on the couch missing your big interview. I’ve typically reserved McDonald’s breakfast trips for airport or road trip traveling, but that might be about to change
The fast food trend of healthier choices continues to extend beyond the typical salad options. Until now, healthier items have yet to break through to the morning meals—most of the fast food oatmeal options are secretly awful. McDonald’s latest release puts a lighter spin on a legendary breakfast sandwich that likely won’t ruin your productivity level for the entire day.
A Typical McDonald’s Egg McMuffin consists of an 8 grain English Muffin, Canadian Bacon, Egg and American Cheese. The McDonald’s Egg White Delight McMuffin ditches the yolk and swaps the cheese for white cheddar. The slight transformation will save you 50 calories, 5 grams of fat, and has over 90% less cholesterol (both varieties contain the typical way to high dose of sodium).
So how does it stack up to the iconic original? Very well. The eggs actually had a light and fluffy texture and the cheese was creamy and tasty as it became slightly melty. My only complaint is that I wish the English muffin was toasted a little longer. It was a bit too soft and had a chewy texture, I’d prefer a bit of a crunch, especially with all the soft ingredients involved.
This sandwich definitely gives me an option for a fast food breakfast that won’t make me feel like I need to skip the rest of my meals. It still provides the same satisfying taste that the Egg McMuffin provides with a much more reasonable impact. I hope these lighter options continue to show up on fast food menus.
