While in the past couple of months, Taco Bell has been releasing a couple of Boss sized items that came with prices that were well above the $5 threshold.  We were slightly unimpressed with the Boss Wrap and came off pretty damn full after taking down the Boss Nachos, but now Taco Bell has taken their focus off of their premium line and are focusing on value.  In the past we have been extremely impressed in the “bang for buck” factor of the $1 items at Taco Bell, especially the Beefy Crunch Burrito which had entree like size and taste for a buck.  This December, Taco Bell is bringing back Crunchwrap Sliders, which are the $1 priced version of the Crunchwrap Supreme. This time around we’re focusing on reviewing the two brand new varieties: Sriracha Chicken and Spicy Beefy Nacho.

The Ingredients:

Sriracha Chicken Crunchwrap Slider:

  • Shredded Chicken
  • Taco Bell Sriracha Sauce
  • Fritos Corn Chips
  • Hexagonally Grilled Flour Tortilla

Spicy Beefy Nacho:

  • Ground Beef
  • Nacho Cheese Sauce
  • Chipotle Sauce
  • Fritos Corn Chips
  • Hexagonally Grilled Flour Tortilla

First Impressions:

For a $1, you can’t get much better than what Taco Bell offers.  While these are definitely, noticeably smaller than the Crunchwrap Supreme, I can’t help but think this is one of the best values in fast food.  Taco Bell has been specializing in creating specific packaging for their promo pics, even designating which options are new this year on the Crunchwrap Sliders sleeve.  Let’s take a look at each of these sliders.

Sriracha Chicken:

Sriracha is all the rage and Taco Bell is no stranger.  Earlier this year, they debuted the sauce in the first Quesarito variant.  While no fast food variety of Sriracha sauce truly is as spicy or vibrant as the actual sauce, the creamy factor does give you the flavor without much of the ear steam.

The Sriracha Chicken might have been one of the neatest Taco Bell eating experiences I’ve had in quite some time.  Due to the fact that shredded chicken is quasi marinated in the Taco Bell Sriracha, it doesn’t lend to there being a complete and utter splattering of liquid involved.  Due to this, the Fritos were extremely noticeable and crunchy, serving there purpose at long last.  The Sriracha chicken was very flavorful but not overly spicy. While in the end this comes off as a pretty basic item, the enjoyable spicy flavor and crunchy Fritos led to a real enjoyable taste.

Spicy Beefy Nacho:

While the Sriracha Chicken experience was pretty neat and tidy, the Spicy Beefy Nacho slider was the trademark, finger licking, sauced up Taco Bell experience the masses know and love.  Consisting of the already somewhat liquidy ground beef and then slathered in duel sauces, my first bite created a landslide.

With the Fritos crunch being somewhat dampened by the abundance of liquid, they still were noticed somewhat thanks to their corn flavor.  I will say that the Nacho Cheese Sauce and Chipotle Sauce combined into a two headed monster that was quite stellar. I’d love to see a Chipotle Nacho Cheese sauce used in a future Nacho product because the melding of these two really stood out to me.  While not overly spicy and definitely a sloppy eat, the Spicy Beefy Nacho Crunchwrap Slider is another prime option.

The Verdict – Taco Bell Crunchwrap Sliders: Sriracha Chicken & Spicy Beefy Nacho

Taco Bell offers the best items in fast food for $1 and these are no different. If anything both of these spiced up options are better than the original BLT and Beefy Cheddar ones returning this year, just because they’re a little bit livelier.  While getting one of these is definitely suitable for a snack, I still wouldn’t bank on it as meal.  Getting two is a more ideal candidate for a solid lunch or three max if you’re in starvation mode.  Regardless you’re still getting a lot of food, plus a lot of variety for $3, which in this day is a steal.
